The Spectacular Markha Valley Trek: Exploring Breathtaking Landscapes and Wildlife
The Markha area, situated beyond the Ganda La Pass (4,900 m.), is renowned for its rich floral and faunal diversity, serving as a crucial breeding ground for the endangered Snow Leopard. Along the trail, we traverse several streams, encountering extraordinary rock formations and numerous historic monuments dating back to the 6th century. As we ascend, we reach the high-altitude yak pastures of Nimaling, located at 4,700 meters. From Nimaling, a zig-zag path leads us to the highest pass on the trek, the Kongmaru La, standing at an elevation of 5,130 meters. At this vantage point, we are rewarded with magnificent views of the Tibet Plateau to the north, the Karakoram Mountains to the northwest, and the Ladakh Range to the south. After completing the trek at Martselang, we return to Leh, visiting Hemis, Thikse, and Shey along the way.
